Martha's Vineyard Ferry Schedule

From the mid-1700s to the late 1830s, Nantucket was the whaling capital of the world. It was home to whaleships plying the oceans of the world on three-, four-, and five-year voyages in pursuit of whales, being the primary business of the island and its economy. Built in 1977 at Breaux Baycraft of Loreauville, LA, Sea Queen II has been in the Hy-Line fleet since 2000. Hy-Line started deep-sea fishing from the Ocean Street Dock in 1966. Built in 2007 at Yank Marine Boatbuilding, Vineyard Lady was originally operated out of Sheepshead Bay, NY until 2015 when she was acquired by Hy-Line. She is an aluminum built catamaran and primarily runs high-speed service between Hyannis and Martha’s Vineyard.

Ferry Service from Hyannis to Nantucket

We discouraged people who were planning to go over for the day not to go if they didn’t have a place to stay. Cancellations don’t come lightly around here, and the captains call it when safety becomes an issue. Hopefully, it never happens again but the weather is the weather and not controllable by any of us. Reservations can be moved to another departure time in advance, and as long as there is available space.

Nantucket

It’s a fascinating (and sometimes comical) history that includes aspects of our maritime industry, the people who established our waterfront community, and some of the area’s most interesting sights. Bid farewell to another delightful day on Cape Cod, or say hello to your Cape Cod evening while enjoying a favorite libation. During the summer, cruise the shimmering waters around Hyannis and join us on a relaxing evening cruise, drinking in the spectacular colors of a Cape Cod sunset sky. Built in 1997 at Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Lady Martha was originally Grey Lady II, the second generation of high-speed catamarans built by Hy-Line. This vessel operated high-speed service between Hyannis and Nantucket until Grey Lady was built in 2003. The vessel was reacquired by Hy-Line in 2005 and embarked on a new adventure, high-speed service between Hyannis and Martha’s Vineyard.

Or maybe it’s the historic buildings, some of which date back to the late 1600s. With its unspoiled charm and natural beauty, it is easy to see why so many travelers flock here year after year. If you’re staying for a few nights, you’ll want to take the time to really explore every town and its unique atmosphere and attractions.

All of them have amazing natural beauty, wonderful food, and fun things to do. The beaches on Martha’s Vineyard are unmatched, and there is amazing shopping, history and fun for all ages around every corner. Cruises 2/3 the distance of the 3-hour sightseeing cruise to the Herring Run and returns.

The company began in 1962 under the name Hyannis Harbor Tours, and was operated by brothers Richard and Robert Scudder, with sightseeing trips as their primary focus. From its humble beginnings, operating just one boat with three employees, Hy-Line Cruises is now staffed by over three hundred and fifty people, including a hundred year-round workers. Reserved tickets can be picked up at the ticket office at any time after they are made, but must be picked up from the ticket office no later than 30 minutes prior to departure. Passengers who have not boarded or who are not ticketed and in line 15 minutes prior to departure may have their tickets released to standby passengers. Any reservations not claimed prior to the boat’s departure time will be considered a No Show.

This high-speed catamaran operates between Hyannis and Nantucket.

That being said, I would like to personally send big ups to every single one of our employees. It has been a tough few years in which we didn’t stop, didn’t catch a break. Their efforts did not and do not go unnoticed, by the owners, co-workers and customers. In addition to our Outstanding Employee monthly recognitions, we chose to share a lot of customer kudos this season on Facebook and invite you to take a look.

The M/V Monhegan is a truly unique vessel with a long history of service. Launched for the Maine State Ferry Service in 1959, she was originally designed for carrying 8 cars and 149 passengers on her expansive main deck. She began her service as the sole vessel of Cape Cod Canal Cruises in May 2023. Despite its small size, Nantucket welcomes you with many lodging opportunities. From upscale resorts to historic inns to hotels to bed and breakfasts to house rentals, the island offers a variety of options. Due to the island’s popularity, however, it is advisable to book your room on Nantucket in advance.

Out of Hyannis, Hy-Line operates seasonal half-day deep sea fishing trips in Nantucket Sound. The fishing boats, Sea Queen II and Sea Swan, go out daily in the Spring and Summer to fish in Nantucket Sound. They offer bottom fishing trips for scup and black sea bass, along with Captain's Choice trips for whatever the captain thinks will be the best fishing. Nicknamed “The Little Grey Lady of the Sea” the quaint island of Nantucket is located thirty miles south of Cape Cod and is just a quick 1-hour trip aboard our high-speed ferries.

It was with heavy hearts that we had to cancel the Hyannis Harbor Cruise for the 2022 season. This is the service that started the company in 1962 by brothers Richard and Robert Scudder. We committed to run Cape Cod Canal Cruises on M/V Viking with a late season start of July 1st.

(Check out our Nantucket ferry schedule here!) The island is simply a natural beauty and easy to navigate during your visit as it is only 14-miles long and 3 ½-miles wide. Hy-Line Cruises also operates seasonal sightseeing cruises in and around Hyannis Harbor, and the Cape Cod Canal, (the latter sailing from the Wareham village of Onset). The demand for travel during this event was excessive, to put it mildly. If you hadn’t made a reservation at least weeks, if not months, in advance you were left with very little choice in your travel options. We were being asked if we were adding more boats, but there were not enough boats, hours in the day, or staff. We are always watching the weather in this business and that afternoon did not look promising.

Featuring live commentary about the fascinating history and points of interest. Please arrive at least 45 minutes prior to departure to allow for drop-off, parking, and ticketing. Free Wi-Fi is available on board their large, high-speed catamarans, so a comfortable and enjoyable journey is guaranteed every time. It’s also worth noting that, due to laws held by the local ferry authority, all of Hy-Line Cruise’s vessels are passenger only. You can also take our Nantucket Ferry or Martha’s Vineyard Ferry and get to either island in an hour! There is so much to see, and Hyannis is the perfect central location for your Cape Cod vacation.

The “up island” towns of Menemsha, Chilmark and Aquinnah are quaint, quiet places reminiscent of the island’s maritime past. The island of Martha’s Vineyard is a beautiful island with so much to see and do it’s no wonder it is a popular destination. Built in 1954 at Blount Marine, the Viking joined the Hy-Line fleet in 1979 as the sole vessel in our Cape Cod Canal Cruises division. In June 2023, she moved to her new home in Hyannis and now operates Hyannis Harbor Cruises. Built in 2016 at Gladding-Heam Shipbuilding, Grey Lady IV is the newest vessel of the Hy-Line fleet.

To answer that, we should first explain the layout of the island. Martha’s Vineyard is a larger island, consisting of six towns with magnificent coastlines. The six towns of the island retain their own character and style. The “down island” towns of Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs and Edgartown are shopping havens with attractions and restaurants to suit every taste.
