But today we saw that the ride got yet ANOTHER makeover, this time for the holidays. We saw holiday decorations up all over the Magic Kingdom, which means the holidays are in full swing. The Jungle Cruise got lots of decorations and even more holiday puns this year. Let’s take a ride and see what’s different about this fan-favorite holiday overlay. The Jungle Cruise holiday overlay is back for the 2023 holiday season at Magic Kingdom.

There are no decorations in the hippo pool or where the chimpanzees have comindeered a boat and some insect crates. That said, we did get a lovely rendition of “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas (Hippo the Hero)” from our skipper. Jingle Cruise, the holiday overlay edition of the Jungle Cruise, opens November 3 for the 2023 holiday season at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. Join the homesick Jungle Cruise skippers as they set out on a holly, jolly journey packed with silly shenanigans.

Ahead of its official reopening on July 16th, we were invited to a media preview of the newly updated ride today in Disneyland. The sign above the attraction’s entrance has been similarly updated. Both sides of the sign hanging over the Adventureland walkway have been decorated.

PHOTOS: Jingle Cruise is BACK at Magic Kingdom!

This ride overlay happens annually and features Christmas and holiday decorations scattered throughout the scenes with some festive puns and jokes sprinkled into the skippers’ scripts. We’ve been checking out decorations in Magic Kingdom, gingerbread displays at the resorts, and merchandise online this morning, but there’s one big thing in Disney World we need to discuss…the JINGLE CRUISE! The holiday overlay of Jungle Cruise is back, and we’re excited to share photos from our ride.

Nearly two dozen life-size Indian elephants like these playful fellows will splash and squirt and spray at Disneyland this Summer in the new Adventureland Jungle River Cruise. The two-year, $7 Million Disneyland expansion will also include the "world's largest" Tree House for Summer '62. The bottom and sides of the river are of gunite construction and the river has an average width of thirty feet and an average depth of five feet. Each ungle Cruise boat is independently powered by inboard natural gas engines, riding on the 1,920 foot long guide rail. Natural gas was chosen because of its clean burning characteristics.

The articles pictured above are a small sampling of some of the various things that were found in the now dry Jungle Cruise river which is currently undergoing a three week rehab. Besides an interesting job, the taxidermist also has an interesting office with migratory wall decorations. The particolored feathers covering his wall are constantly being used and replaced to attire over 100 birds. The taxidermist outfits a variety of birds from Jose the parrot to "odd-ball feathered things." Plumes, turkey feathers and ostrich feathers, among others, come in 400 t 500 sizes and colors. Each feather is individually glued to the bird, but contrary to popular belief, birds are not all feathers--at least not Disney birds.

PHOTOS, VIDEO: Jingle Cruise Returns for 2023 Holiday Season at Magic Kingdom

In the Skipper office, there are even more colorful decorations. The skippers are more excited than anyone about the Jingle Cruise. This wreath resembles a reindeer, with antlers and a red nose.

Of course, as we continue through the queue and ride, you’ll see it’s not that simple of a transformation. If you want to experience the Jingle Cruise be sure to plan accordingly, as it often has a longer wait time. Every year, the Jungle Cruise is transformed into the “Jingle Cruise,” a holiday-themed version of the classic Magic Kingdom attraction. The holidays are here and so is the return of one of our favorite holiday attractions! That’s right Disney friends, the Jingle Cruise is BACK at Magic Kingdom. In addition to the famous Island Dinner & Show Cruise, the Riverboat offers a 90-minute Sightseeing Cruise.

Reasons to visit Walt Disney World in 2023

Originally debuting in 2013, the Jingle Cruise sees holiday props, music, and script changes added to the traditional Jungle Cruise attraction in Adventureland. If you get the chance to stop by, definitely check this ride out in the next few months! Our skipper cracked some great holiday jokes throughout the ride. This is the first chance to see the Jingle Cruise after Jungle Cruise received a bunch of updates earlier this year. Many ride scenes were updated this summer, so we’re sure things will be a little bit different than what we’ve seen in the past. While several boats were out of the rotation when we visited, all of the others already had their holiday names up.

Here is video that Disneyland has shared, with a look at the reimagined scenes and the interviews. …and even a fully decorated office, complete with a silver tree. Looks like one present decided to spend the holidays on the water. Wamba Wanda becomes the Wassail Wanda thanks to a metal panel decorated with Christmas trees. The office seems to be decoration central, adorned with strands of red, white, and pink paper and knitted garlands. Others are decorated with animal horns and red “noses,” resembling Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Just outside the official entrance, guests can see wreaths adorning some of the lampposts, including this one made out of an old lifebuoy. Of course, this being the jungle, the skippers make use of whatever they can get to ring in the season, and that extends to the signage above the entrance. As befits the makeshift look of the Jingle Cruise, a candy cane-colored “I” replaces the “U” on the Jungle Cruise sign. Presents have been scattered across the beach in the next scene. With all the recent changes to Jungle Cruise, we were excited to see how Jingle Cruise would be different from previous years.

The entrance sign features holiday lights and garland, and the name has officially been changed to “Jingle Cruise” for the season. The new creative concept is original to Walt Disney Imagineering, just like the classic attraction itself. Back at the dock, we also saw that the shack had a lot of decorations, including bells, lights, and a Christmas tree. When the skippers decorate, they go all out, including this outdoor scene with a bamboo Christmas tree.

Themed wreaths now adorn the streetlights outside Jungle Cruise. Before we got on the ride, there were plenty of Christmas decorations to look at. The result was a small group of perhaps 6-7 skippers whose humor could be described as a mix of Steve Martin, Chris Rock, and a touch of Don Rickles. It was all carefully thought out ahead of time, since a major aspect of our fun and success was audience involvement in our spiel. I personally took every chance I could to involve each kid, grandmother, or family in my spiel to make them feel as special as possible.

The reimagined trapped safari has a little more Christmas cheer with presents and decorations scattered on the ground. There are red bells decorated with white snowflakes and trees. A portion of the nearly two dozen Indian elephants being added to Disneyland's jungle river cruise is viewed here in the artist's sketches. Big ones and "little squirts," the elephants will frolic and splash in the waters of Adventureland beginning in June. At various resorts and EPCOT, guests can enjoy annual gingerbread displays. Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will have a gingerbread display for the first time this year, either in place of or in addition to its usual train village.

These are brand new for the annual holiday overlay, following the reimagining of the attraction last year. Jingle Cruise is available for all guests during the holiday season from park opening to closing. While you are visiting Magic Kingdom, be sure to check out the holiday fun decor and tasty treats posing up around the park. This fan-fave ride takes the classic Jungle Cruise ride and gives it a fun, seasonal twist with plenty of holiday decor and festive puns.
